How did slaves become slaves
Some slaves were criminals, but most of them were foreigners whom Roman soldiers had taken prisoner when they conquered a country. As the Roman Empire got bigger more and more slaves were brought to Rome to do all the hard work

You had to be a man, no women.
You had to be at least 20 years old.
You had to be a Roman citizen
You couldn’t be married, you were not allowed to be married in the army

Why would there be stepping stones on the footpath
If there was litter on the footpath the Romans put stepping stones there so they didn’t have to walk on the litter and get their feet dirty

The father was the head of a Roman family. He had power over the whole family! He often beat his wife and children and they could sell them if they wished. When a baby was born the father decided weather it lived or not. And the father married off this children
