All the planets are members of the solar system. The Sun is at its center. The planets all travel round the Sun. The movement of one body in space around another is called revolution. All the planets revolve around the Sun. The pathway that each planet follows is called an orbit. Each planet revolves around the Sun in its own orbit.

Planet Earth revolves in its own orbit once in 365 ¼ days. We experience this as a year. Because we cannot easily use a quarter day to measure our year, we use 365 days in three out of every four years. In the fourth year, called a leap year, we have 366 days to make up the missing quarter day. The extra day is always 29 February.
