Electric Circuits Flashcards
Cell
A source of electrical energy that stores then supplies energy to a circuit.
Electric circuit
System for transferring energy from one place to another.
Battery
Two or more cells connected to provide electrical energy
Has a positive and a negative side
Components
Parts of an electrical circuit:
- A source of energy = battery or cell
- Conducting material = wires or metal plates
- Output device
Electric current
The movement of electricity charges through a conductor
Conductor
A material that allows an electric current to flow through it. Made from copper
Insulator
Covering on a electric circuit that keeps electrical current in the wire = layer of plastic
Buzzer
Electric device that converts electrical energy into sound energy.
Output Device
Device component that changes electrical energy into another form of energy = Light, Heat, Sound, Movement energy
Electric motors
Convert electrical energy into movement energy.
Switch
A component for controlling whether the electric current flows in a circuit.
Getting electrical energy from one place to another
- Circuit = pathway for electricity to flow from energy source, like a cell, to where it is needed and back to the source.
- Needs to form a closed loop = loop that does not have any breaks is it = electrical circuit
- Made of wires or metal plates
Circuit Board
Is a electrical circuit printed on a board, found in modern appliances.
Electron Current
The flow of electrons = Negative to the positive
Conventional Current
Positive charge carriers cause current flow.
