The Return Of Chirst/Resurrection Flashcards
How will the second coming of Christ differ from the first coming?
When: No one knows
Where: The first was into the earth, the second will be “in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory” (Matt 24:30; Acts 1:11) also Titus 2:13
Who witnesses: Just a few the first time, the second time all people everywhere at once (Isaiah 40:5; Rev 1:7)
First coming, the suffering servant (Isaiah 53). Second coming, the conquering king with the armies of heaven (Zec 12:10; Rev 1:)
More fully described in Rev 19:11-16
On what basis do you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will personally and physically return to earth?
Zachariah 14 - The battle of Armageddon
Distinguish between the doctrines of premillennism, post millennialist and amellennialism? Which do you believe?
Pre-tribulational premillennialism
This view is most dominate. The present age is one immediately leading up to the rapture of the church. Christ will soon descend from heaven and command Christian’s who have died to be resurrected. Living Christian’s will meet the Lord in the air and proceed in triumph to heaven.
Post-tribulational premillennialism
The view predicts that Christ will return in a single event after the period of intense persecution of the church known as the Tribulation. Immediately after Christ returns, the Antichrist and his followers will be destroyed and Israel will repent and be saved. The promised messianic kingdom (millennium) will be established for 1000 years, after which the rest of the dead will be raised, the final judgement effected, and the new heaven and earth will begin.
Amillennialism
Do not believe in a literal 1000 year reign of Christ following his return to Earth. The kingdom of God is views as both a present reality and a future hope. The kingdom began with Christ’s birth and will be consummated at the second coming. As such amillennialists distinguish between an inaugurated eschatology and a future eschatology.
As far as the 1000 years mentioned in Rev 20 are concerned, amillennialist believe we are not in the millennium. The souls of all believers who have died are now living and reigning with Christ in heaven. The resurrection of both believers and unbelievers will occur at Christ’s return to Earth.
The second coming will be one event, not a series (Rapture, tribulation, and return of Christ). Believers who are alive will be transformed and glorified, meeting Christ in the air and then returning to Earth with Christ.
Postmillenialism
This eschatological outlook anticipates a period of unprecedented revival in the church prior to the return of Christ. The great revival will be characterized by the church’s numerical expansion and spiritual vitality. As a result, the entire world will experience conditions of peace and economic improvement that will gradually improve until Christ returns. During this millennium, Christian values and principles will dominate, though not every person will become Christian.
What will be purpose of Christs return?
For the purpose of completing God’s plan for God’s creation. The event where God intervenes and sets things right. Finalizes God’s reign, where God’s will is eternally done on Earth.
Explain the ‘judgement seat of Christ’ and the ‘Great White Throne judgement.
Judgement Seat of Christ (Rev 14:10-12; 2 Cor 5:10)
Believers giving an account of their lives to Christ, but does not determine salvation (we cannot be eternally separated from Christ (Rom 8:1). We should look at the judgement seat not as God judging our sins, but as God rewarding our lives. Yes, as the Bible says, we will have to give account of ourselves,. Part of this is surely answering for the sins we committed. However, that is not going to be the primary focus of the judgement seat of Christ.
At the judgement seat of Christ, believers are rewarded based on how faithfully they served Christ (1 Cor 9:4-27; 2 Tim 2:5). We get crowns (2 Tim 2:5; 2 Tim 4:8; James 1:12, 1 Peter 5:4, Rev 2:10). Look at James 1:12 to think about the Judgement seat of Christ.
Great White Throne of Judgement (Rev 20:11-15)
The final judgment prior to the lost being cast into the lake of fire. From Rev 20:7-15 judgement will take place after the millennium and after Satan is thrown into the lake of fire where the beast and the false prophet are (Rev 19:19-20; 20:7-10)

What does the term resurrection mean? Is it possible for a resurrection to occur without a physical body? Explain.
First have to define death:
Physical death - separation of spirit from body
Spiritual death - separation of person from God
Eternal death - eternal separation of person from God if one is spiritual dead at physical death
Resurrection
Our resurrected bodies will be like Christs, they will be similar to and different from our mortal bodies. They will be spiritual; not nonmaterial but given by and animated by the Holy Spirit rather than by natural life
