Why is the teaching of His personhood so important to sound doctrine?
The Holy Spirit’s personhood is especially important to note, as the concept of pantheism is widespread. Pantheistic thought teaches that God is in everything.God is part of the trees, part of the earth, and part of every human being. To pantheist, god is energy, not a personality. Though the Bible does teach that God is omnipresent - that he is everywhere - that doesn’t mean his is everything. In fact, Scripture clearly teaches against the worship of objects, which is often seen in pantheistic thought.
Why is the belief that the Holy Spirit is a divine person important?
Being of the same substance as God and Jesus ensures that the Holy Spirit does the same ministry as Jesus with God’s will at the center of everything.
Jesus taught that believers were better of with the Holy Spirit than if he had stayed (John 16:7). The divinity of a Holy Spirit that dwells within each of us speaks to the ability to the Church (The Body of Christ) to carry out the mission of God, empowered by the divine Holy Spirit who knows everything that God knows.
