The relationship between CV and RS Flashcards
what is enlargement of the right side of the heart due to?
the high blood pressure in the pulmonary blood vessels, usually caused by chronic lung disease
why does partial pressure drop off in the lungs?
humidification in the lungs
what is the V/Q ratio?
Ventilation(V) - (ability of the lungs to take the air and gas exchange to occur)
Perfusion (Q) - blood supply
is oxygen soluble in plasma?
Not very
What is the blood that is not dissolved in plasma transported by?
haemoglobin
what does deoxygenation of blood increase?
the ability to carry carbon dioxide (haldane effect)
what percentage of haemoglobin in arterial blood is saturated with O2
98.5%
what percentage of haemoglobin in venous blood is saturated with O2?
75%
what is the affect of O2 affinity changes?
Shift right - less loading of O2 and more unloading (increased affinity)
Shift left - more loading of O2 and less unloading (decreased affinity)
what is the effect of temperate of O2 saturation?
Higher temp
- active tissues
- shift right
- more unloading of O2 in tissues
- more O2 delivery to tissues
what is the effect of pH on O2 saturation?
- Bohr effect (lower affinity)
• lower pH increases O2 unloading - Active tissues
•produce more acid pH decreases in tissues
• decreased pH causes shift right in saturation curve
• more O2 is unloaded to tissues
how do you calculate pulse pressure?
Systolic - diastolic
how do you calculate mean arterial pressure?
MAP = diastolic + 1/3 pulse pressure
