THE PROCESS OF OBSERVATIONAL LEARNING Flashcards
Define the role of attention
A learner needs to have interest in, and pay attention to, the model’s behaviour, before they can deem the model’s behaviour worth imitating or not.
Define the role of retention
How well a behaviour is retained effects it’s likelihood of repetition; a behaviour that is poorly retained is unlikely to be repeated.
Define the role of Reproduction
The learner must have the ability to perform the behaviour that the model has demonstrated.
- Our physical ability limits us, so even if we wish to reproduce the behaviour, sometimes we cannot.

- ~Reinforcement:
Define the role of motivation
The learner will consider the rewards and punishments that follow a behaviour and must feel a desire to perform it.
- If the perceived rewards outweigh the perceived costs (if any), the learner will more likely imitate the behaviour.
Define the role of reinforcement
The actual rewards or punishments received for displaying the behaviour.
- behaviours are more likely to occur after gaining a reward, and less likely to occur after punishment.
