Classical Conditioning - 2 LEARNING Flashcards
List all 5 Pavlov’s other terms
-Acquisition
-Extinction
-Spontaneous recovery
-Stimulus generalisation
-Discrimination
Define Acquisition in terms of Pavlov’s response
When the Neutral stimulus and the unconditioned stimulus are paired to create the conditioned stimulus
Define Extinction in terms of Pavlov’s response
Describes the gradual elimination of a learned response that occurs when the unconditioned stimulus is no longer present
Define Spontaneous recovery in terms of Pavlov’s response
Describes the tendency of a learned behaviour to recover from extinction after a rest period
Define Stimulus generalisation in terms of Pavlov’s response
Is when the Conditioned Response occurs even if the Conditioned Stimulus is slightly different.
Define Discrimination in terms of Pavlov’s response
Is the capacity to distinguish between similar but distinct stimuli.
Use all 5 of Pavlov’s terms terms of Pavlov’s experiment
-Pavlov’s dogs acquired a new response to drool from a bell.
-The dogs were able to discriminate between a bell and a gong.
-The dogs generalised the high-pitched bell with a low-pitched one.
-The response quickly became extinct when the researchers stopped pairing the food with the bell.
-As soon as the researchers began pairing the stimuli again, the dogs spontaneously recovered their response
