A responsible pharmacist will need to :
- secure the safe and effective running of the pharmacy
- display a notice
- complete the pharmacy record
- establish
- maintain and review pharmacy procedures
- the rp should be clear of their responsibilities before taking up
- clarify anything they do not understand
- should only open the pharmacy if they believe it is safe to do so
the display notice should include :
- the name of the rp
-gphc number
RP pharmacy record
the pharmacy record may be kept in the following formats :
- writing
- electronically
- or both
it should include :
- rp name
- rps gphc number
- date and time in which they became rp
- date of absence
- time of absence
- return time
the pharmacy owner or superintendent pharmacist must keep the pharmacy record for a period of 5 years
Responsible pharmacist absence
- can be absent for a max of 2 hours during the pharmacy’s business hours
they can only be absent if :
- it is safe
- remain contactable
Activities which require supervision of an RP
- proffesional check
- sale / supply of p meds
- sale / supply of POMS
- wholesale of meds
- emergency supply of meds
- supply of medicine under a patient group direction
Activities which do not require supervision
- assembly process
- generating dispensing labels
- taking meds off shelves
- labelling of containers
- accuracy checking
- gsl

- access of pmrs
- putting away stock onto shelves
What is a retail pharmacy business ?
a business which consists or includes the retail sale of medicinal products that are not subject to general sale
