What is the nose made up of?
Cartilage, maxillae, frontal and nasal bones
What is the nasal septum composed of?
Perpendicular plate of ethmoid bone, vomer bones and seotal cartilage
Name the paranasal air sinuses
Frontal, ethmoidal, sphenoidal, maxillary
How can toothache affect paranasal sinuses?
Infections of the roots of the upper teeth may cause the maxillary sinus to become inflamed
What enters into the superior meatus?
Sphenoidal sinus and anterior ethmoidal sinus
What enters into the middle meatus?
Frontal sinus, maxillary sinus and middle&posterior ethmoidal
What enters into the inferior meatus?
Nasolacrimal duct
What is the nerve supply of the nasal cavity?
Special sense (smell) by olfactory nerve (CNI)
General sensation of posterior by maxillary branch and anteriorsuperiorly by nasociliary of opthalmic branch
Sympathetic from carotid plexus
Parasym from pterygopalatine ganglion
Describe the blood supply of the nose
Maxillary artery (by sphenopalatine foramen) Opthalmic artery (ethmoidal a.) (by cribirform plate) Facial artery
