The nervous system Flashcards
What is the stimuli?
The change in environment
What are sensory organs?
Tounge, eyes, skin, nose and ears
What does the sensory neurone do?
Connects sensory organs to the brain
What is the central nervous system/relay neurones?
Brain and spine
What does motor neurones do?
Neurones that carry electrical signals/impulses from the central nervous system to the effectors
What are the effectors?
Muscles and glands
What is the response?
How to adapt to the change in environment
What is the correct order of a stimulus that leads to a response?
- Stimuli
- Receptor in the sensory organ
- sensory neurones
- relay neurones/CNS
- Motor neurones
- Effectors
- Response
What is the function of the Dendrites in a nerve cell?
Picks up impulses
What is the function of the Axon in a nerve cell?
Channels the impulse quickly to the other body parts of the body
What is the function of the Sheath in a nerve cell?
Insulates the axon so the impulses move quickly
What is the function of the Axon terminal in a nerve cell?
Where the impulses travel to
