What is type 1 diabetes?

A

When your pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin (which can be genetic) it means that your body can’t control your blood sugar levels correctly

What is type 2 diabetes?

A

where your body cells (liver) don’t respond to the insulin that your pancreas makes. You can develop it by poor diet or not enough exercise, which also means that you have to be careful what you eat.

What are some examples of what diabetes can cause?

A
  • diabetic foot which can lead to amputations in extreme cases
  • diabetic retinopathy which is where you retina breaks down due to lack of blood flow which can result in losing sightedness and going blind

What are some treatments and cures for type 1 diabetes?

A

treatments: controlling diet and testing bloody sugar levels and also regular insulin injections
cures: Successful pancreas or pancreatic cell transplant
