Q

What is CT scan?

A

Fire x ray radiation from different angles to form image of brain, used for bleeding within skull, and damage to brain structures, not recommended for pregnant women, as exposes high number of radiation.

Q

What is PET scan?

A

A radioactive tracer is injected into blood, areas where tracer builds us, highlighted brightly, recongising cancerous tumours, as these use more blood.

Q

Why is investigating brain difficult?

A

The brain is complex and delicate, its easily damaged, drugs given to treat disease cannot always be treated.

16
Q

What are motor neurones?

A

Carries nerve impulses to effector cells.

17
Q

What are synapses?

A

Connection between 2 neurones.

18
Q

What is the process of synapses?

A

Neurotransmitters diffuse across, and then set electrical signal in next neurone. This is very fast, but slows during synapses.

19
Q

What is axon?

A

Single nerve fibre, carries nerve impulses away from cell body.

20
Q

What is dendron?

A

Connects to other neurons, impulse can pass between neurons.

21
Q

What is myelin sheath?

A

Allows nerve transmission faster.

22
Q

What is the roles of neurotransmitters?

A

Bind with receptor molecules.

23
Q

What is process of a reflex arc?

A

A stimuli is detected, which travels through sensory neurones, which are passed along a relay neurone causes to travel through a motor neurones, via synapses, , and then reaches an effector to react.
