The Eye Flashcards
What is the cornea?
Refracts light into the eye
What is the lens?
Refracts light, focusing on the retina.
What is the iris?
Controls how much light enters the pupil
What are rod and cone cells?
Rods cant sense light, but cones can sense light.
What is the retina?
Light sensitive, covered in receptor cells detecting light and colour.
What happens to look at close object?
Ciliary muscle contracts, slackens suspensory ligaments.
What happens to look at distant object?
Ciliary muscle relaxes, suspensory ligaments tighten.
What is cataracts?
Cloudy patch on lens, stopping light from entering eye, have blurred vision, colours less vivid.
What is longsightedness?
Lens is too flat, cannot refract light.
What is short-sightedness?
Lens is too curved, distant objects are blurry.
What is colour blindness?
Inability to see colours, where cone cells in retina are not enough.
How is cataracts treated?
Replacing faulty lens with artificial one.
How is long sightedness treated?
Glasses with convex lens to correct it.
How is short-sightedness treated?
Concave lens
