The Need For Transport 2.6 Flashcards
Why is there a need for transport system?
A plant needs one transport system to enable water to trace from the roots up to the leaf cell and another one to transport system to allow sugar to pass from the leaves down to the root cells
What are the two main substances transported thought the bodies of plants?
Water and sugar
What function can a root hair do
Absorbs water from the soil solution
What lignifies to withstand pressure changes during water transport of water?
Xylem
State the substance transported, direction and the tissue of s phloem
Sugar up and down alive
State the substance transported, direction and the tissue of a xylem
Water and minerals up only and dead
How does the stomata open and close?
It opens by when it takes in water which makes them swell so it pushes them apart
It closes by losing water to make them shrink and close
Where is the heart located?
In the chest behind the sternum
What are he upper two chambers in the heart
Atriums
What are the lower two Chambers called in a heart
Ventricles
What are the chambers that take away the blood
Arterys
What are the chambers called that bring in blood
Veins
What is the right vein called
Vena cava
What is the left vein called?
Pulmonary vein
What is the left side aftery called?
Aorta
What is the right artery called
Pulmonary artery
Where are the valves
In veins
Which ventricle has a thicker wall?
The left ventricle because it has to pump blood all the way round the body
Where does the pulmonary artery pump blood to?
Lungs
Arteries are connected to veins by
Capillaries
What is the size of the capillaries
1 cell thick
What is the order of structure which air passed through the lungs?
Trachea bronchus bronchioles alveolus
What is the role of villi
Only 1 cell thick so it makes digestion easy
Thin epithelium short distance for diffusion of foods
