A

PEW research conducted a survey in America in 2020 and found the following:
6/10 women in America say, “feminist describe them very well or somewhat well.”
Of these women, those aged 50 to 64 are the least likely to say it describes them very weakly.
7/10 women with at least a bachelor’s degree say this describes them very or somewhat well, compared with 56% of women with less education.
75% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning women say the term feminist describes them very or somewhat well, compared with 42% of Republican and Republican-leaning women.
Four-in-ten men in the United States say this term describes them
Roughly half of white adults (49%) say feminism is polarising, compared with 34% of Black and 36% of Hispanic adults.
A third (32%) of whites say feminism is outdated, roughly one-in-four Black (24%) and Hispanic (26%) adults say the same.

Q

feminists overall impact?

A

The extent of adherents today is far reaching. There are many celebrities who openly identify as a feminist and belong to the feminist movement. This includes Beyonce, who often expresses and uses lyrics in her songs to address feminism. During her 2014 world tour, the 34-year-old pop star flashed the word “Feminist” in big, bold letters across the stage as she sang her girl-power anthem. “I put the definition of feminist in my song [“Flawless”] and on my tour, not for propaganda or to proclaim to the world that I’m a feminist, but to give clarity to the true meaning.” Furthermore, Emma Watson often declares herself a feminist, most notably when she delivered a speech to the UN in 2014, where she launched the campaign ‘he for she.’
The success of the hashtags #body positive or #feminism for all, whose reach is global, shows the interest in feminist mobilizations on the Internet, particularly on social media. These hashtags encourage and revive discussions about gender relations in our society. The hashtag #feminism gathers more than 11 million posts on Instagram.

The increase in the use of social media is accompanied by an increase in interest in feminist issues and has given more voice to feminist ideas.

The latest phenomenon is the #BalanceTonBar movement, launched in October 2021 in Brussels and that caused a real earthquake in the nightlife world. Following the assault of several women by a waiter in a Brussels bar, an Instagram account was launched to collect testimonies and denounce the responsibility of bars: @BalanceTonBar. Quickly, dozens of similar testimonies followed and involved several other bars. The story became a social phenomenon: the Instagram publications were massively reposted, and the traditional media (press, television) picked up the information.
A further celebrity who also identifies as a feminist is Taylor Swift, who regularly calls out toxic masculinity. She will often support women in her life on Instagram. She also calls out her critics who she writes about her ex-boyfriends, but they don’t say the same for musicians such as Ed Sheeran.
