The Microscope Flashcards
who invented the Microscope?
Italian scientist Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was given credit for inventing the microscope. records show the first microscope was built by such spectacle markers, Hans and Zaharias Janssen.
what was it consisted of?
a tube 2.5cm in diameter and 50 cm long. it contained two lenses.
what did Galileo do?
learned about the inventions and built his own.
image formation?
microscopes that use light to form images are called light microscopes. beam of light pass through a specimen and are bent by the microscopes lenses. bending of light rays produce a magnified image.
electron microscopes?
have high magnification. form images by using electron beams instead of light and using electron lenses.
dissecting microscope?
a type of optical microscope designed for low magnification observation of a specimen, by using light reflected from the surface of an object rather than transmitted through it.
the compound light Microscope?
uses light to form images and more than one lens.
magnification?
magnification = eye piece magnifying power x objective lens power.
