A virtual line across the country of which any southern states were allowed slavery. This lead to states being paired when added one could have slavery one couldn’t

why did the south become more influential on politics as it grew?
Slavery meant slave owners got more power in the votes and some presidents openly supported slavery such as Andrew Jackson 1829-37
Why was the slave trade needed?
By 1838 a million bales of cotton where made yearly so it was needed to keep the economy booming. However opposition towards slavery was growing
What was the Indian Removal Act?
An act in 1830 which promised money to tribes if they relocated west of Mississippi river
What did Jackson believe about the Tribes?
That they should be treated like children
What was the result of the Indian removal act?
The Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes(15000 in total) moved and gave up 11 million acres of land. The Cherokee won at supreme court and could stay but the creek refused to move
what was the result of the Indian removal act on the Seminole tribe?
some Seminole agreed to move but others didn’t which resulted in the Seminole wars 1835-42 which they lost and were forced to move west
What happened to Creek after the treaty they signed?
2 years later in 1832 they signed a treaty to give up some of Alabama after being promised their own sections of land White settlers began to settle there so they attacked them but this resulted in the army moving them
What was the trail of tears?
The army forcibly moved the Cherokee tribe west and by 1838 only 2000 survived as 4000 died on the way from starvation, cold and disease.
