What was difficult to maintain?
Control over the working class who flocked to the Bolsheviks in increasing numbers as the weeks progressed.
What did sailors do at the Kronstadt naval base?
Sailors organised their own armed demonstration in July using Bolshevik slogans.
Where did the demonstrations spread to?
The demonstrations spread to the center of Petrograd, placing Lenin in a difficult position.
What did the Bolsheviks try and do with the protests?
Tried to turn the protests into a peaceful procession.
What threatened to undermine Lenin’s credibility?
When shots were fired at the demonstrators there was chaos and uncontrolled rioting.
What did the Provisional Government try and do with the protests?
They were supported by the Mensheviks and SR’s and brought in reinforcements to crush the demonstrations.
What closed down and issued?
The offices of the Bolshevik newspaper Pravda and warrants were issued for the arrest of their leaders.
Who fled and who were imprisoned?
Lenin and Stalin fled but Trotsky and Kamenev were imprisoned.
What was burned?
Bolshevik propaganda and Lenin’s reputation fell, for fleeing rather than leading.
What did Kerensky do and when?
On the 8th of July, Kerensky replaced Prince Lvov as Prime Minister and it appeared that the Bolsheviks moment had passed.
