What are some of the roles of Justices of the Supreme Court?
Hear points of great importance, create precedent with any new law, sit as an uneven panel

Lord and Lady Justices of Appeal
Where do senior judges sit?
Court of Appeal
What are some of the roles of senior judges?
hear appeals, make decisions on points of low which can become precedent for lower courts to follow
What is the role of high court judges?
hear criminal appeals from the magistrates court, sit in a panel of 2 and, in crown courts, they decide the sentence and the law
What are recorders and their role?
Part time judges, usually still practicing solicitors and barristers and they decide the law and sentence if guilty
What do circuit judges do?
Sit in the crown court to hear criminal trials and sentence if guilty
What do District Judges do?
try criminal cases, sit alone, decide facts and decide sentence if guilty
What are some of the roles of the Judiciary as a whole?
Swear in the jury and explain the law, keep order in the court, summary to the jury and answering questions, sentence or free and discharge jury
