Interview clients and take statements, draft documents and write letters, represent clients in a police station, advise clients on issues and work in a solicitors office

By the Law Society; if complaints are received, they are investigated an punished
What are the main roles of barristers?
Focus on advocacy, do paperwork which consists of giving opinions on cases, drafting documents, and work enough and become a Queen’s Counsel when they have enough experience
Who are barristers regulated by?
By the Bar Standards; they discipline in breach of code
Who are barristers represented by?
By the General Council of the Bar
What are legal executives?
Qualified lawyers who have worked in a solicitors firm for 5+ years
What is a solicitor?
A person who is legally qualified to give advice to a client and act on their behalf
What is a barrister?
A barrister is a lawyer who is entitled to work in court
What is the difference between a solicitor and a legal executive?
Legal execs are typically trained in specific parts of the law whereas solicitors have a broader training
How are legal executives regulated?
By the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives who provide training and code of conduct; they also investigate breaches of code
