Q

Define sympathetic

A
  • When the body is involved in a ‘fight or flight’ response to a stressful event.
  • The sympathetic nervous system gets the body ready by increasing heart and breathing rates

13
Q

Define parasympathetic

A
  • The normal resting state of the body.
  • After a stressful event, the parasympathetic nervous system returns the body to its normal resting state.
  • Works in opposition to the sympathetic nervous system and acts as a ‘brake’ to the fight or flight response.
