What are the different joints in the pelvic girdle?
A
Acetabulum (pubis, ilium and ischium)
Sacroiliac joint (connects ilium to the sacrum)
Pubic symphysis (connects the hemi pelvis anteriorly)

What kind of a joint is the hip?
A
Ball and socket synovial joint

Why is the hip stable?
A
Deep insertion of femoral head into acetabulum
Strong tight articular capsule
Ligaments around the joint capsule (anteriorly esp)
Large powerful muscles around the joint
Ligaments within the articular capsule (ligamentum teres)
Fat pad fills central region and adds cushioning to thinnest part of acetabulum
