The hip Flashcards
3 parts to the pelvis
ilium
ischium
pubis
iliac fossa
broad depression, inferior to iliac crest
attachment point for iliac muscle
anterior superior iliac spine
bony point at top of hip
anterior inferior iliac spine
bony projection directly below the ASIS
symphysis pubis
cartilaginous joint between 2 pubic bones
Body of pubis
flatten, medial end of pubis lies adjacent to symphysis
inferior pubis ramus
thin flat downwards extension that runs diagonally from the medial pubis to ischial ramus
superior ramus
band of flat bone that runs diagonally superior to body of pubis
pubis crest
pubic tubercle
ischial tuberosity
sitting bone, bony point on bum
Ramus of ischium
anterior extension that joins the inferior ramus of pubis bone, adductor magnus obturator externus muscles join here
ischial spine
sharp projection from posterior margin of ischium, pointy bit
Greater & lesser sciatic notch
round indentation located next to spine
acetabulum
large round depression on external surface of coccyx - inside of hip joint formed by parts of ischium, ilium & pubis
arcuate line
curved ridge through pelvis
muscles that flex hip
psoas major - T12-L5 to lesser trochanter (lumbar plexus L1-L3)
iliacus - iliac fossa to lesser trochanter (femoral nerve L2-L3)
sartorius - ASIS to medial tibial condyle (femoral nerve L2-L4)
rectus femoris - AIIS to tibial tuberosity (femoral nerve L2-L4)
3 ligaments in the hip
ischiofemoral - ischium to the femur
iliofemoral - AIIS to intertrochanteric line
pubofemoral - obturator crest (iliopubic eminence) to the intertrochanteric line
nerve supply in rec fem
femoral nerve 2,3,4
pelvic gurdle
2 inominate bones & sacrum
inguinal ligament
1cm deep to surface mark
attaches at ASIS to pubic tubercle
muscles that abduct hip
gluteus medius - posteror surface of ilium to greater trochanter (sup gluteal nerve L5,S1)
gluteus minimus - posterior surface of ilum to greater trochanter sup gluteal nerve L5, S1)
tensor fascia latae -iliac crest & ASIS to iliotibial tract (superior gluteal nerve L4,L5,S1)
pectineus muscle
helps with adduction of thigh and flexion
gracillis muscle
hip adduction, knee flexion
