The elbow Flashcards
ulno humeral joint
synovial hinge joint
articulating bones ulna and humerus
1 plane of movement in sagittal plane
medial and lateral epicondyles of humerus
bony points at bottom of humerus bone on either side
radial head
head of radius
radial and ulna tuberosity
raised bump on radius ad ulna shaft
radial fossa
indent on radial side of humerus (radius fits into when flexed)
capitulum
round piece on the radial side of the humerus (lateral)
trochlea & trochlea notch
round piece on ulna side of humerus (medial)
notch - indent inside where trochlea fits into ulna
coronoid process
points top part of ulna
coronoid fossa
indent where coronoid process fits into when arm is flexed (like radial fossa)
olecranon
pyramid shape underneath elbow, pointy
olecranon fossa
the indent that the olecranon fits into when arm is extended
super condylar ridges
running up sides of humerus, attachment points for muscles
muscles that flex the arm
biceps brachii - coracoid process to radial tuberosity (musculocutaneous nerve C5-C6)
Brachialis - anterior shaft of humerus, coronoid process to ulna tuberosity (musculocutaneous nerve C5,C6)
Brachioradialis -lateral supercondylar ridge of humerus radial styloid process
muscles that extend the arm
triceps brachii - 3 heads long head, lateral head -posterior shaft of humerus, medial head inferior of the radial groove to olecranon process (radial nerve C7,C8)
anconeus - latera; epicondyle of humerus to olecranon process (C7,C8)
muscles that pronate the arm
pronator teres - medial epicondyle of humerus to lateral surface of radius (median nerve C6,C7)
pronator quadratus - anterior surface of the distal ulna to ant surface of distal radius (Median nerve C8-T1)
