Right Ventricle
What pumps oxygenated blood to other organs?
Left ventricle
Why do we have valves?
To prevent backfire and ensure blood flows in 1 direction
How is the resting heartbeat controlled?
Through a group of cells in the right atrium wall that act as a pacemaker
How do pacemakers work?
A small electric impulse is produced which spreads to the surrounding muscle cells, causing them to contract
Why would an artificial pacemaker be needed?
To control the heartbeat of natural cells don’t work (E.g slow or irregular heartbeat.)
What is an artificial pacemaker?
A small device implanted under the skin that has a wire going to the heart. (Produces the electric current to keep the heart beating regularly.)
What’s the biggest artery in the human body?
Aorta
