What is a tumour?
An abnormal mass of cells due to uncontrolled growth and division
Difference between benign and malignant tumours…
Benign are contained in 1 place whereas malignant are cancerous, spread around the body and can form secondary tumours.
What are the risk factors of smoking?
Lung, Mouth, Stomach and Cervical Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, increases chances of miscarrying in pregnant women.
What is the addictive substance in cigarettes?
Nicotine
Why is smoking bad for you?
It increases blood cholesterol levels which thickens the artery walls, increasing the chances of blood clots, strokes and high BP. Lungs become inflamed and mucus builds up
What is the ingredient in smoking that can potentially cause cancer?
Tar because it contains carcinogenic chemicals
How does smoking effect the lungs?
Damage to the alveoli which reduces gas exchange causing shortness of breath (Emphysema)
