What changed about Gairy’s leadership
At first he seemed to be a leader that cared about his people but as time progressed he started acting strangely. he started to believe in mysticism & UFOs and included those topics in his public speeches. The people of Grenada were embarrassed. He also became a corrupt and brutal leader. He squandered public funds, owned 30 estates when the poor had very little land, there were 80 children in one class at primary schools, roads were badly in need of repairs, almost half the population was unemployed, the number of persons living below the poverty line increased on a daily basis, but still Gairy did nothing to help his people.

Since Bishop was placed under house arrest, he feared that the government members who were loyal to Bishop would release him and that Bishop would then execute him along with everyone else involved in the coup. So they dragged Bishop from his house on October 19th, lined him and his loyal member against a wall in St. George’s, then executed them.

Why did the US invade Grenada?
America wanted the entire Caribbean to be within her grasp and completely under her control. Bishop had rejected the US domination of Grenada because he favored a relationship with Cuba’s Fidel Castro. Their relationship eventually resulted in a lot of positives for Grenada, the US didn’t like that. The reason for the Urgent Fury was because America couldn’t tolerate communism so close to them.
