Named after President Hoover - these shanty towns were first coined Hoovervilles by Charles Michelson when it first appeared in print in 1930.
What were Hoovervilles constructed with?
Constructed of cardboard, tar paper, glass, lumber, tin and whatever other materials could be salvaged.
How large were Hoovervilles?
They varied in size with some being as small as a few hundred people and others in metropolitan areas housing thousands.
What did Roosevelt do to end the Depression?
Signed the New Deal which eventually reduced unemployment and regulated banking.
