Persistence in the face of adversity, similar to the Oklahoma farmers - Both the turtle and the farmers receive kind and malicious treatment from the people they meet.

Kindness - A woman swerves to avoid knocking it
Maliciousness - A man in a truck goes out his way to run it over.
