  • predictions, expectations, or guesses about the future
  • decisions made at the time of speaking (on-the-spot decisions)
  • for requests, offers, threats, warnings, hopes and promises
  • for actions/events/situations which will definitely happen in the future and which we cannot control (the weather f.e)

A

-going to: something we intend to do
-will: to give details or make comments
-going to: already decided;
-will: on-the-spot decisions
-predictions: going to-> evidence (see, know)
will-> no evidence needed (believe, think is enough)

  • to emphasize an action that will be in progress at a specific time in the futures (this time next year…)
  • action which will definitely happen in the future as the result of a routine or arrangement
  • when we ask politely about someone’s plans for the near future (we want to know if our wishes fit in their plan)
