Whether or not a proposition is universal or particular (applies to one thing or everything). ‘All’ signifies universal and ‘Some’ indicates particulars

Distinguishing Universals

A

Sometimes there is no quantifier in a statement, so you have to try to figure out its quantity. For example, if you say ‘Socrates is mortal,’ you assume that there is only one Socrates so it’s particular. In another example, ‘Frogs are ugly,’ it is assumed that you are talking about all frogs so it is universal.
