Simple Apprehension Flashcards
What does occur during simple apprehension
- Sense perception
- Mental image
- Forming of concept
What is Sense Perception
Perceiving something with your senses: seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching.
What is Mental Image
Image of an object formed in the mind as a result of a sense perception of that object. It can be present even when you are not presently perceiving the object.
What is Concept
It is the idea of an object. When you read the word “chair” you understand what this word means, even without seeing a real chair or invoking a mental image of it - this is what is meant by concept.
Simple apprehension is a mental act by which the mind grasps the concept of an object without making any judgment about it.
What is Abstraction
Process which forms a concept (simple apprehension) from a sense perception and mental image
