How much support did Nicholas II have at the start of the war?
Great support, critiques of the war were thought to be German agents and attacked publicly. Economy and industry were increasing at a great speed but the war stopped this.
What is war the greatest test of ?
The political system. The longer the war lasted the longer it proved that Russia’s govt couldn’t handle such events.

How many men joined the armed forces in Russia?
In 1914 there were 5.3 million under arms. 1917 there were over 15 million.
What happened to food prices as was continued on?
Government spending rose, leading to more govt loans from other countries and higher taxes. It also meant that the govt created more money in circulation so that people could pay rising taxes, and wages to be paid. The value of money therefore plummeted as there was so much of it.
How much grain did Petrograd need per day and how much were they recieving?
Needed: 1000 wagons of food
Recieved: 300
1916 the army recieved a third of the supplies needed.
What was the Tsar’s biggest mistake in the war?
His decision August 1915 to take full responsibility and direct command of the armed forces. Bad decision as the Tsar was now personally responsible for each and every defeat, of which there were multiple.
What mistake did Nicholas II make with the Dumas?
The Tsar ignored the advice of the Duma to pull out of the war, meaning the Tsar lost support of prominent political figures
How did the Tsarina and Rasputin not help Russia?
The tsarina was German which lead the Russia population to become suspicious of her and not trust her decisions. Rasputin was idolized by the Tsarina, and while Nicholas was away they ruled together. Russia was under command of a German and a ‘monk’.

What changed in 1917 in opposition to the Tsar?
The range of opposition to the Tsar and the speed which events happened. Petrograd strike a Putilov company, 2 weeks later the Tsar had abdicated
Why did the Tsarist system collapse so quickly?
There was no one who thought that the Tsarist system could be saved particularly seen by soldiers sent to deal with Putilov strike who deserted the army. Order could not be restored

The failure of those at the top of the system to take control e.g Tsar and his advisors
