The Environment Flashcards

1
Q

Describe fully the process of Eutrophication

A
  • Fertiliser goes onto land
  • Rains and fertiliser is absorbed by soil
  • Fertiliser is transported to lake by underground water
  • This results in an overgrowth of algae and aquatic plants
  • Sunlight can’t reach the bottom of the lake - algae dies
  • Bacteria decomposes algae using up all the Oxygen making the lake anoxic
  • All living organisms in the lake die
