What are Hormones?
Chemical messengers that are released into the blood and are carried by it.
What organs do hormones affect?
Only organs that need constant adjustment
What do hormones tend to have?
Long-lasting effects
What does the Pituitary gland produce?
Many hormones that regulate body conditions
What is the Pituitary gland also known as?
‘Master Gland’- the hormones produced act on other glands, directing them to release hormones that bring about change.
What does the Thyroid gland produce?
Thyroxine which is involved in regulating the metabolism rate, heart rate and temperature
Where is the Thyroid gland found?
The neck
What does the Pancreas produce?
Produces insulin which is used to regulate blood glucose levels.
What do the Overies produce?
Oestrogen, which is involved in the menstruation cycle.

What do the Testes produce?
Produce testosterone, which controls puberty and sperm production (male only)
What are the 3 key differences between Nerves and Hormones?
1) Nerves are faster (hormones are slower action)
2) Nerves act for a very short time (hormones for a long time)
3) Nerves act on very precise areas (hormones act on a more general area)
