Q

How does an MRI scan work?

A

Employs powerful magnets which produces strong magnetic field which forces protons in body to align with field. Radio frequency the pulsed through patient, protons are stimulated + spin out of equilibrium. When radiofreq turned off MRI sensors detect energy released.

Q

How does a PET scan work?

A

By detecting the radiation given off by substance injected into arm called radiotracer as it collects in diff parts of body. By analysing areas where parts of body the radiotracer does/ doesn’t build up. It’s possible to workout how well certain body functions are working and which aren’t
