The Elbow And Superior Radio-ulnar Joint Flashcards
Articulating surfaces of the elbow joint
Trochlear notch of ulna -trochlea of humerus and the head of the radius - capitulum of the humerus
What type of joint is the elbow joint?
Ginglymus (synovial and diarthrodial)
Ligaments at elbow
Radial collateral ligament
(Found on lateral side of joint and blends with annular ligament of radius)
Ulnar collateral ligament (originates from the medial epicondyle and attached to coronoid process and olecrannon of ulna)
Carrying angle in men and women?
(Cubitus valgus)
10-15 degrees in men
20-25 degrees in women
What type of joint is the radioulnar joint?
Trochoid joint (pivot)
Articulations of radioulnar joints?
Promixal RU joint - head of radius and radial notch of ulna
Distal RU joint - ulnar notch of radius and ulnar head
Origin and insertion of biceps brachii
O - scapula
I - radius
Brachialis origin and insertion?
O - anterior humerus
I - coronoid process of ulna
Brachioradialis origin and insertions?
O - lateral ridge of humerus
I - lateral radius (styloid process)
Triceps brachii Origins and insertions?
Long head
O - scapula
Lateral
O - posterior humerus (upper 1/2)
Medial
O- posterior humerus
All insert on olecranon process of ulna
Origin and insertion of anconeus?
O - lateral condyle of humerus
I - posterior surface of upper ulna
Pronator teres origin and insertions?
O - medial ridge of humerus and medial side of proximal ulna
I - middle of lateral radius
Pronator quadratus origins and insertions
O - distal end of anterior ulna
I - distal end of anterior radius
Supinator origin and insertion?
O - lateral epicondyle of humerus and posterior ulna
I - lateral surface of proximal radius
What are the movements available at the tricep?
All heads perform elbow extension.
Long head also performs shoulder extension, adduction and horizontal abduction
