High income countries (HICβs)
A
A group of wealthy countries mostly in the northern hemisphere e.g. North America and Europe.

Low income countries (LICβs)
A
A second group of much poorer countries mostly in the Southern Hemisphere e.g. South America and Africa.

Criticisms of the brunt line
A
- Made in 1980so it could be out of date.
- Not all parts of countries are poor or rich.
- Does not take into account countries in the middle.
- Some countries have developed more.
- Does not include the BRICs.
- Doesnβt take into account of the population.

Middle income countries (MICβs)
A
Countries such as brazil and chile that has large reserves of raw materials (e.g. iron) which encouraged investment and growth in the 1980s.

Newly industrial countries (NICβs)
A
Their growth was often due to relocation of manufacturing overseas. Economies double in size between 1988 and 1996.
