Piagets stages of cognitive development

A

The sensorimotor stage; 0-2 yrs. learning to use senses and muscles and thinking without language

The pre-operational stage; 2-7 yrs. thinking in language but without understanding the logic

The concrete operational stage; 7-11 yrs. logical thinking is limited to practical situations.

The formal operational stage; from 11 yrs. using logic and abstract thought processes.

Each child goes through the stages in the same order and no stage can be missed out.

Piagets theory of learning

A

Constructivism explains human development and behaviour in terms of the way a person builds an interpretation of the world.
Piaget believed:
Infants. Children and adults actively seek to understand the world they luve in.
Children learn through experience. Teachers can encourage learning by helping to create useful experiences.
As children grow older the develop complex way of interpreting the world.

Developing theories about the world involve 3 stages;
Assimilation
