Q

Explain what happens in REBT?

A

You tell the therapist about your negative and irrational beliefs and then you actually try to argue with them
And ask them to prove their beliefs with empirical argument ( data evidence) to show that their negative thoughts do not logically follow the facts ( logical argument)

Q

Evaluation : Effectiveness

A

There is evidence that CBT is effective
March et al (2007) compared the effects of CBT with antidepressants and a combination of the two in 327 adolescents with depression.
After 36 weeks : 81 % of the CBT group and the Antidepressants groups and 86 % of them together were significantly improved.

Q

Evaluation: Appropriate

A

May not be appropriate for all clients such as those clients who are not motivated to do CBT as they won’t pay attention to sessions
And so it’s better to use antidepressants and use CBT later
A weakness because CBT can’t be used as the sole treatment
