The Cell : Bacteria Flashcards
Is Bacteria Unicellular or Multicellular?
Unicellular
What are some examples of bacteria?
E.Coli, Strep, Salmonella, Listeria, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Staph, Syphilis, Whooping Cough, MRSA (Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus)
- Bacterial Domain -
Name the Parts of Bacterial Cell
Cell membrane, Cell wall (peptidoglycan), cytoplasm, DNA/RNA, ribosomes, cilia, flagellum, Mesosome: make ATP to do cellular respiration.
What kind of DNA does Bacteria have?
Bacteria has plasmid DNA, which are circular DNA.
What is the main purpose of Pilus (Pili)?
Pili allow conjugation to occur which is sex between bacterias.
What is CONJUGATION?
Conjugation is solely sex between bacteria allowing them to exchange plasma DNA.
What are plasmids?
Plasmids are fragments of DNA
What is a common mutation in plasmid DNA?
The common mutation is the resistance to certain antibiotics. This gene is located in plasmid DNA.
