Leonardia is crying her eyes out because her husband Pancracio is leaving on a trip. Once he leaves the tears stop and Leonarda and her maid Cristina have food brought and invite their lovers over, Reponce and the Barber. Before the lovers arrive, Carraolano arrives, a student looking for somewhere comfortable to sleep. They say he can sleep there but he has to pluck the bird for the meal and keep quiet. Meanwhile Pancracio loses a wheel on the carriage and has to return back home. The lovers have since arrived and they are all having a grand time. Pancracio returns and before the women open the door, the lovers hide with the food in the barn. Carraolano tricks Pancracio into thinking that he has caught two devils who happen to look just like Reponce and the barber. Pancracio believes the tale and Carraolano brings the two men with all the food into the house and they all feast.

Quick summary of The King, The Greatest Alcade
Sancho, a noble-spirited peasant is in love with the beautiful maiden Elvira. Nuno (Elvira’s father) tells Sancho to get the permission and a dowry from Don Tello. Don Tello grants them permission and a generous dowry and then offers to attend the wedding that very day. At the wedding when Don Tello sees Elivira he ends up falling in lust with her and kidnaps her. Sancho makes many attempts to rescue Elvira, eventually goes to the King to ask for intercession. King sends a letter to Don Tello ordering the wrong to be righted, but Don Tello rips it up. The King then comes in person to DOn Tello’s house with everybody else. It is clear that Elvira has been raped, and the King says the her honor must be restored. He resolves it as follows: ELvira will marry Don Tello, he will then be executed and she will inherit all of his wealth, and will then be free to marry Sancho. The King takes Feliciana (Don Tello’s sister) to court and to care for her until a suitable marriage partner is found.

Summary of Life is a Dream
Rosaura (dressed like a man) is on a quest with Clarion, a clown, to win back her honor from Alfonso, determined that he will either marry her or she will kill him. They arrive at a towere were Segismundo is improsoned. CLotaldo (Segismundo’s caretaker) reocognizes Rosaura’s sword as his own, suspects she is his child they all go to court. At palace Astolfo wants to marry Princess Estrella because they would be the king’s successor if they did. Basilio tells them that he put his son in prison due to an omen that he would bring disgrace and kill him. He will test him to see if his son can prove the oracle wrong. Clotaldo puts Segismundo to sleep, when he wakes up he is angry and throws a servant off a balcony. The king isn’t happy, tries to reason with him, Segismundo is indignant because his rights were denied him. Segis then tries to seduce Rosaura (who’s been disguised as one of Estrellas maids Astrea since they got to court). Rosaura procures Astolfo’s locket which has her picture in it, by tricking Estrella, saying the locket is hers and that he is hiding the one that she is looking for. WHen the people find out there is a prince, they break him out of the tower. Segis forgives Clotaldo for aiding the cruelty but Clotaldo won’t join him in his cause of overthrowing the king. Clotaldo tells Rosaura that he is her father, she asks him to kill Astolfo but he says no, she runs away worried about her honor. Rosaura joins Segismundo’s battle so that she can kill AStolfo. Segis and his army are winning, Clarion is killed. Segis. spares the life of Basilio. Basilio proclaims him heir to the throne. Segis, as king tells Astolfo he must keep his promise to Rosaura. He consents when he finds out she is Clotaldo’s daughter. Segis says he will live by the motto “God is God”, no matter asleep or awake one must strive for goodness.
