2
Q

What is the use of red blood cells

A

They pick up oxygen from the air in your lungs and transport it around the body where it is needed

12
Q

Explain how the small intestine is adapted to perform its function.

A

It has lots of villi on the inside of the intestine and therefore creates a larger surface area and it is very very long. This then means that the food can be processed

16
Q

What are enzymes

A

Enzymes are special proteins involved in ‘metabolism’ (reactions in body) and help to speed up reactions. They are biological catalysts.

17
Q

What do we mean when talk about ‘optimum temperature’?

A

Temperature or pH which makes an enzyme work at its very fastest the optimum for that enzyme.

18
Q

What happens to an enzyme when it becomes denatured

A

This means the substrate will no longer fit

19
Q

What is the method called when molecules are broken down by enzymes

A

The lock and key

20
Q

What is blood plasma

A

Blood plasma is a yellowish coloured liquid component of blood that normally holds the blood cells

21
Q

What does blood plasma do

A

Plasma contains proteins that help blood to clot, transport substances through the blood, and perform other functions.
