Respiration Flashcards
What type of reaction is cellular respiration?
How often does it occur in living cells?
An exothermic reaction
Happens continuously in living cells
Aerobic respiration summarised
Glucose + oxygen —> CO2 + water
Energy transferred to the environment
What does the energy transferred supply?
All the energy needed for living processes
Effects of exercise on respiration and why
Increases :
Breathing rate as more oxygen is need
Heart rate as oxygen needs to be pumped faster around the body
Blood movement as more oxygen needs to be delivered to muscles
Anaerobic respiration
Respiration without any oxygen
Comparison between anaerobic and aerobic respiration
Aerobic respiration includes oxygen however anaerobic respiration does not. Aerobic respiration produces carbon dioxide and water from using glucose and oxygen however anaerobic respiration only uses glucose and produces lactic acid that builds up in muscles
Comparison of anaerobic respiration in animals, bacteria snd yeast.
In animals, such as humans and bacteria cells, anaerobic respiration produces lactic acid. In yeast it produces ethanol
