Q

Describe the structure and function of the heart

A

The 2 atria receive blood into the heart. The 2 ventricles send blood from the heart to the rest of the body
Cardiac tissue has its own conduction system through which it initiates its own pulse without neural control (myogenic)
The right side of the heart is separated from the left side by a wall of muscle called the septum
The Sino atria node (pacemaker) sets the rhythm
SA node sends impulse to atrial which causes them to contract
AV node receives impulse which sends it down the septum which is where the bundle of His is
Bundle of His sends impulse to purkinje fibres
The purkinje fingers causes the ventricles to contract and force blood out of the heart

Q

How does blood flow redistribution take place?

A

Relax the muscles within the arterioles to all faster blood flow
Open pre capillary spinters to increase blood flow
