The Brian! Flashcards
What parts make up the hind brain?
The Medulla oblongata, the cerebellum, and the pons
What is the function of the medulla oblongata?
Monitors heart rate, peristalsis, pH levels, BP, CO2 and O2 levels
What is the function of the cerebellum?
Fine motor coordination and balance
What is the function of the pons
Sends signals to appropriate parts of the brain.
What are the parts of the midbrain
Reticular formation
Corpus callosum
Amygdala
What is the function of the reticular formation
Circadian rhythm, filters out useless stimuli
What is the function of the corpus callosum
Communication pathway between the left and right side of the brain
What is the function of of the amygdala
Important for memory formation, emotional response
What is the function of the forebrain
Personality and advanced functions
What is the function of the Hindbrain
Handles the autonomic Nervous system.
What is the function of the hypothalamus?
The hypothalamus has several roles. It controls thermoregulation, regulates your blood pressure, controls osmoreceptors, and controls many of the functions of your pituitary gland.
What is the function of the cerebrum?
Mostly made of grey matter, the cerebrum makes up the majority of the forebrain. The cerebrum contains the motor cortex and the sensory cortex. The majority of the cerebrum or association cortex is further broken down into four lobes.
What is the function of the parietal lobe?
The parietal lobe contains the lexicon and allows one to process pain and touch.
What is the function of the frontal lobe?
The frontal lobe determines personality, emotion and processes abstract thought.
What is the function of the occipital lobe?
The occipital lobe deals with visual information.
