What was the Boston Tea Party and when did it occur?
In 1773, the Sons of Liberty dumped English tea into the Boston Harbor to protest the Tea Act.
What were the prerequisites of the Boston Tea Party?
The Dartmouth enters the Boston Harbor.
A meeting of the colonists takes place and they agree that anyone attempting to unload of buy the tea will suffer.
Hutchinson hears this and names the group of people terrorists, not protestors.
Colonists try diplomacy first and try to pressure the owner of the tea to send it back to England.
Colonists board the ship dressed as Mohawk Indians, but do not steal or damage anything else on purpose.
What were the Coercive/Intolerable Acts?
Acts passed by the British in 1776 in response to the Boston Tea Party. Included the Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act.
What was the Boston Port Act?
Closed the port of Boston until the colonists paid for the tea.
What was the Massachusetts Government Act?
Took away Massachusetts’ charter and brought it under direct control of the British government.
What was the Administration of Justice Act?
Allowed the Royal governor to order trials of accused royal officials to take place in Great Britain.
What was the Quartering Act?
Allowed the governor to house British troops in colonists homes without their consent.
What was the Quebec Act?
Set procedures of governance in the Province of Quebec.
What was the First Continental Congress and when did it occur?
In 1774, 12 of the 13 colonies meet to decide on how to respond to the Intolerable Acts.
What was Galloway’s Plan of Union?
A plan to politically unite Great Britain and the North American colonies.
What was the effect of the First Continental Congress?
The Continental Association was formed, which was a system created for implementing a trade boycott with Great Britain. A petition was also sent to the king to revoke the Acts. The Declaration and Resolves was also created
