The body Flashcards
The function and role of the blood
Transport glucose to his working muscles
Remove waste products (such as lactic acid) to prevent muscles cramps.
Regulate his body temperature
Anaerobic equation
glucose—>energy+lactic acid
Aerobic equation
Glucose+oxygen—->energy+carbon dioxide+water
Skeletal system will offer
Protection Blood production Shape Support Movement
Name the connective tissue
Cartilage is found at the end of the bones.
Ligaments attach bone to bone and stabilise the joints.
Tendons connect muscles to bone to allow movement.
Name the joints
- Hinge- e.g the knee
- Ball and socket-e.g the shoulders
- Pivot-e.g the neck
- Saddle-e.g the thumb
- Condyloid-e.g the wrist
- Gliding-e.g the feet
Name the different body movements
Flexion- angles between the bones decrease
Extension- angles between two bones increase
Adduction- the bone movers towards the body
Abduction- the bones move away from the body
rotation- a circular action
Name the body movements
Prime mover is a muscles that contracts and shortens to create movements
Antagonist is the opposite to a prime mover: a muscles that relaxes and lengthens to permit movement
Origin- is the end of the muscles attached to a non-moving bone.
Insertion is the end of a muscle attached to a moving bone.
Oxygen debit
This is removing products from the blood that can cause pain or damage to the body.
