The biological Approach Flashcards
What is causation?
< meaning change in one variable causes a change in another variable
What is correlation?
< Means a association between two variable exists.
What is Neurotransmitter?
< Neurotransmitters are your body’s chemical messenger’s.
<They carry messages from the presynaptic neuron , across the synapse , to the post .Synaptic neuron.
What is Evolution?
< The process of natural selection ensures that a species characteristics which provide an survival advantage are passed from one generation to the next.
Examples of neurotransmitters?
Neurotransmitters: Serotonin
Function :Mood regulation
Behaviour : OCD
Neurotransmitters: Dopamine
Function : Reward
Behaviour : Addiction
Neurotransmitter : Adrenaline
Function : Stress
Behaviour : Fight or flight.
What is a phenotype?
< The expression of their genes which lead to the observable characteristics of a person .Influenced the interaction of the gene with the environment.
E.G we may have a gene know for aggression (MAOA) gene but it is only expressed when it triggered.
What is a genotype?
<Our genetic makeup ,which is fixed from birth.
Example: We may have a gene for aggressive behaviour known as MAOA gene.
What is causation?
An association between two variable exists.
What is biological determinism ?
Behaviour being caused by internal biological factors.
What is biological reductionism?
The belief that all behaviour can be explained through neurochemical , phycological , evolutionary and genetic influences.
